Indian Street Life: Exploring The Art Of Street Photography
We're taking a look at street photography today with the help of ePHOTOzine member Somnath Chatterjee.
Take your camera for a walk down your street and we can guarantee that you'll soon find many images waiting to be captured. From someone popping a letter in the post box to people enjoying a cup of coffee outside a cafe, the street is full of photographic potential that's waiting for you to explore.
As the name suggests, street photography is all about photographing everyday life, on the street/in a public place and it's done in a candid way so you can really capture the essence of what's going on around you. Of course, there are times when asking someone to pose for a portrait will work, too, especially for environmental portraits where the surroundings and their relation to the subject portray a story.
There are many ways you can approach street photography and ePz member Somnath Chatterjee has been exploring 9 of the main styles/approaches to photography in his blog which he's happy for us to share with you along with some of his excellent street photos captured where he lives in India.
1. Unobtrusive Street Photography
This is probably the one you've tried if you've captured images of people while out and about as it's less challenging for yourself and it also means that the individual will remain more natural. "In this case, the photographers try to blend themselves in the background & try to remain unnoticed..." says Somnath.

2. Intrusive Street Photography
The total opposite of what we've just mentioned, this form of street photography is rather bold and much more challenging as it involves getting 'in the face' of your subject which can be met with some hostility at times but the results can be brilliant. Read More…
