Dengue killed 2 and hospitalised 854 in one day

In the past week, dengue has claimed the lives of two people and hospitalized 854 more with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease across the nation.

As many as 365 new dengue patients, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), were admitted to Dhaka hospitals up until Wednesday morning.

According to bdnews24.com, 55 people were admitted to the hospital in the Barishal Division, 98 people in the Chattogram Division, 200 people in the Dhaka Division, 64 people in the Khulna Division, 35 people in the Mymensingh Division, 27 people in the Rajshahi Division, and 10 people in the Rangpur Division.

The number of dengue patients admitted to hospitals this year has reached 26,555, according to the new counts. Among them, 138 people died in total.

Since 2000, the DGHS has been keeping track of dengue-related hospitalizations and deaths.

In 2023, a record number of 321,179 dengue hospitalizations were recorded. The disease also claimed the lives of 1,705 of the highest number.
