Anelisa Phewa on working on Law, Love, and Betrayal, with Modiadie
Renowned actor Anelisa Phewa recently shared his experience working on the new Showmax legal drama Law, Love, and Betrayal, where he plays the role of James Makaula. The series also features top local talents like Dineo Rasedile, Nimrod Nkosi, Pearl Modiadie, and Siya Sepotokele.
Reflecting on his time working alongside Pearl Modiadie, Phewa revealed that he initially felt nervous during their first test shoot together. He recalled a moment when Modiadie noticed his nerves: “She had to place her hand on my chest and asked, ‘Why is your heart beating fast? Are you nervous?’ I said, ‘Yes,’ and she responded, ‘Thank God, me too.’” This exchange helped both actors relax and connect on set.
Phewa's company, Dramatec, is also involved in Law, Love, and Betrayal. Dramatec collaborates with institutions like the University of the Witwatersrand and the University of Johannesburg to offer workshops for aspiring actors. "We provide support in character development, articulation, and scene preparation," Phewa explained. While not a formal school, Dramatec creates a space for actors to refine their craft.
On what sets Law, Love, and Betrayal apart from other shows, Phewa highlighted its high production value and the pride of seeing local stories told with international standards. "It’s exciting to see something local look this good. Seeing someone who looks like me, successful and wearing a suit in Sandton, is a big deal,” he added.
