Actor Yoo Ah-in sentenced to one year in prison for drug abuse

Actor Yoo Ah-in, legally known as Uhm Hong-sik, has been sentenced to one year in prison for habitual drug abuse. The 38-year-old actor, best known for his role in the Netflix series Hellbound, was convicted for illegal drug use, including the misuse of propofol under the guise of cosmetic procedures on 181 occasions between 2020 and 2022.

The charges also involved illegally obtaining about 1,100 sleeping pills with fake prescriptions, smoking marijuana while in the United States, and attempting to coerce accomplices into retracting their testimonies.

The Seoul Central District Court imposed a one-year prison sentence along with a fine of 2 million won (approximately $1,490). Following the court's decision, Yoo Ah-in was immediately taken into custody. Prosecutors had initially sought a four-year prison term, but the court ultimately handed down a lesser sentence.

During a prior court hearing, Yoo expressed remorse for his actions and vowed to repay those who supported him by leading a healthier and more honest life, with the intention of contributing positively to society.
