Putin has identified candidates for the head of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug
Russian President Vladimir Putin has submitted a list of candidates to the Duma of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Yugra for the election of the region's head, following federal legislation. The candidates include the acting governor Ruslan Kukharuk, Alexey Savintsev, a deputy of the district Duma, and Mikhail Serdyuk, the general director of YugraNefteRazvedka LLC and also a local parliament deputy.
The regional Duma will hold a session on September 8, during which the deputies will vote to elect the new head of the region by a majority vote. This election comes after the former governor, Natalya Komarova, stepped down on May 30 after leading the region for over 14 years.
In addition to this election, leaders for Kabarino-Balkaria, Ingushetia, and Crimea will also be elected on the same day. Furthermore, residents in 21 other regions of the Russian Federation will be voting directly to choose their governors, as part of a larger electoral process that will fill approximately 35,000 mandates and elective positions across various levels.
