OCP Group to Accelerate “Water Program†to Tackle Water Stress in Morocco

Phosphate company the OCP Group, is accelerating its “Water Program” for 2022 to cope with water stress in Morocco.
The group stressed in a press release that it will stop using natural freshwater resources in its fertilizer production as of this year.
Natural water resources running through the production plants will now be redirected to strengthen local access to drinking water in the Oum Rabi basin.
This should allow them to supply drinking water to the cities of El Jadida and Safi as well.
OCP continues to invest in technical advances to improve farmers' yields to improve Africa’s agricultural ecosystems, protect the environment, and promote the well-being of its population.
The press release noted that 30% of OCP’s water needs in 2021 were met from unconventional sources through desalination and wastewater treatment programs, while 86% of the company’s electricity was produced from cogeneration and renewable sources.
OCP’s other achievements involve the rehabilitation of more than 200 ha of land on two mining sites.
OCP’s “water program” focuses on increasing production to meet the growing global demand while using innovative techniques and unconventional water sources to reduce its need for fresh water to zero by 2030. Read More...
