Morocco's Royal Navy Rescues 97 Irregular Migrants

Morocco’s Royal Navy units operating in the Mediterranean assisted 97 irregular migrants who ran into difficulty at sea between April 16 and 18.
A military source told Moroccan state media MAP that most of the migrants were from sub-Saharan countries.
Rescued migrants also included Yemenis.
Morocco’s royal units provided the migrants with the necessary medical care before transferring them to ports across morocco.
Morocco has recently intensified efforts against human trafficking and irregular migration networks.
The 2021 annual report from Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said that police managed to dismantle 150 criminal networks in the same year, active in organizing irregular migration.
Security services also seized 742 forged travel documents, 67 inflatable boats, and 65 vehicles used for displacing people in 2021.
Last year, the Moroccan government said that security services prevented over 14,000 Spain-bound irregular migration attempts since 2017.
Since 2017, Morocco has also dismantled over 5,0000 human trafficking and irregular migration networks.
The North African country works with partners, such as Spain, to tackle organized crime.
