Israeli Strikes Kill Hamas Spokesman and Family of Six in Gaza
Israeli airstrikes overnight have resulted in the deaths of a Hamas spokesman and a family of six in the Gaza Strip, according to local officials. The strikes targeted a tent in the Jabaliya area, where Abdel-Latif al-Qanoua, a Hamas spokesman, was staying, leading to his death. This information was confirmed by Basem Naim, another official from Hamas.
In a separate incident near Gaza City, a strike reportedly killed four children along with their parents, as reported by the emergency service of Gaza’s Health Ministry.
This escalation follows the end of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas last week, which had been in place for a limited time. Since the ceasefire's conclusion, Israel has launched a series of surprise airstrikes, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians. The Israeli government has stated its intention to intensify military operations unless Hamas agrees to release hostages, disarm, and withdraw from the territory.
Hamas has responded by asserting that it will only consider releasing the remaining 59 hostages—24 of whom are believed to be alive—if a lasting ceasefire is established and Israeli forces withdraw from Gaza. The situation remains tense, with ongoing concerns about the humanitarian impact on civilians in the region.
