In Itapàºa, teachers and students risk classrooms collapsing
They have buildings up to 50 years old with all kinds of problems, from cracks, humidity, leaks, among other evils that endanger the safety of the entire educational community. It is the parents who try to make improvements, but the resources for all the repairs are limited, so much so that boys and girls still have to use wooden toilets with water problems.

In Itapúa, the bleak conditions of educational institutions are not different from those of most parts of the country. There are structures that date from the 70s and 80s and urgently need renovation and maintenance, because the safety of students and teachers is at risk. However, despite the requests, they do not receive answers from the central government.
At the Arcángel O. Benedetti school, in the San Juan neighborhood, district of San Juan del Paraná, several classrooms had to be permanently closed, although the entire institution is at risk, because the building materials are nearly 50 years old.
"We need to change the ceilings and walls, the materials are very old and almost 50 years old, so the walls are collapsing, the floors are sinking, it goes down," said director Sandra Laguna.
The danger is so great that even if the structure were to give way, those inside could run the risk of being trapped in the rubble, the director commented. “We are really at risk, it is a risk for both the children and the teachers who go to work every day. What's more, they say that if it falls, it won't give us time to go outside, ”she added.
In order not to lose the year, in the classrooms that are a little better, they joined the grades. “Despite the risk, we are giving classes, we continue to carry out projects and look for ways to move education forward,” Laguna concluded.
