Azerbaijan Set to Conduct Major Repairs of Local Water Canal
Azerbaijan has successfully restored an irrigation canal in the Tapqaraqoyunlu village of the Goranboy district, which had fallen into disrepair due to years of occupation. According to reports from the State Agency for Water Resources, the canal, which draws water from the İncechay River and spans a total length of 7 kilometers, is now fully operational.
The restoration project was carried out with the assistance of equipment from the Goranboy Water Melioration Systems Operation Department. The team worked diligently to clear the canal of silt and overgrown vegetation, resulting in a significant improvement in the irrigation of approximately 1,500 hectares of farmland in the Tapqaraqoyunlu area.
To enhance the efficiency of irrigation systems in the region, several initiatives have been implemented. A total of 986 sub-artesian wells, 16 pump stations, and irrigation canals with a combined length of 2,277 kilometers have been put into operation. Throughout the year, routine repairs have been conducted on the pumps of 1,035 sub-artesian wells, and 46 new pumps have been installed to ensure a reliable water supply.
Plans are underway for several major and ongoing repairs in the district this year. Project documents have been prepared for the major repair of 34 sub-artesian wells that have completely lost their productivity, with work set to commence soon. Additionally, a 9-kilometer stretch of the 1,020-mm pipeline at the Sefikurd pump station, which has reached the end of its service life, will be replaced, with 400 meters of the pipeline scheduled for replacement this year.
New drinking water pipelines are also planned for construction in 11 villages, and repair work will be carried out in water reservoirs and pipelines. These measures aim to ensure a continuous drinking water supply for the district’s population.
Residents in Goranboy district and the surrounding villages near the Murovdağ-Goranboy water pipeline now enjoy access to 24-hour uninterrupted drinking water. Previously, the Veyisli village received water every other day, but the new improvements have enabled daily water supply. In the Qazanbulaq settlement and Tapqaraqoyunlu village, water supply has been adjusted to meet the needs of the population, significantly enhancing the quality of life for local residents.
These initiatives reflect Azerbaijan's commitment to improving water management and infrastructure, ensuring sustainable access to water resources for agriculture and daily living.
