These 88,000-volt handcuffs let police shock prisoners into submission

These ‘stun cuffs’ are guaranteed to make your eyes water faster than you can say… police brutality.

At 80,000 volts, they’re as powerful as a taser.

But the electroshock device is intended for use on prisoners already in custody, rather than while officers are attempting to arrest a suspect.

The video above shows a guy writhing and spasming in pain as he tests his metal at the National Sherriffs’ Association meeting as his cameraman mate laughs.

Currently used in the US and Mexico by police officers, prison guards and bailiffs, here’s how the stun cuffs work: Prisoners are cuffed around the wrists or ankles.

The powerful shocks are controlled by whoever is holding the remote transmitter – which functions up to 100 yards.

Designed by Myers Enterprises, the wireless cuffs come with a slightly terrifying brochure. It reads: ‘Today’s criminal is more hardened, desperate and more dangerous than ever.

‘Whether taking a prisoner for a doctor visit, transporting them for trial, interrogations or dealing with a prisoner that is under the influence. They must be controlled.

‘A demonstration of this in front of a prisoner and they will know if they are out of compliance the Single Cuff model will drop them.’ Okaaaaay.

The company’s website lists testimonials for the product, which also make for pretty alarming reading.

Training Sgt. Sean O’Neil from Harrison County said: ‘We had four opportunities to use the cuff, after that inmates were telling others “that s*** ain’t no joke”.’
