The Trade Balance Deficit in the First Seven Months Of 2024 Up By 15.6%
In the first seven months of 2024, Romania's trade balance deficit increased by 15.6%, reaching EUR 18.039 billion. This represents a rise of EUR 2.435 billion compared to the same period in 2023, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
During this period, the country’s exports (FOB) totaled EUR 54.586 billion, showing a slight decrease of 0.9% compared to the previous year, while imports (CIF) rose by 2.7%, amounting to EUR 72.625 billion.
Significant portions of both exports and imports were attributed to the automotive and transport equipment sector, which accounted for 47.1% of exports and 36.4% of imports. Another key category was other manufactured goods, comprising 29% of exports and 28.5% of imports.
Trade within the European Union (intra-EU 27) constituted a substantial majority of Romania's trade activities, with EUR 39.486 billion in dispatches and EUR 52.873 billion in arrivals, representing 72.3% of total exports and 72.8% of total imports.
Trade outside the EU (extra-EU 27) amounted to EUR 15.1 billion in exports and EUR 19.753 billion in imports, accounting for 27.7% of total exports and 27.2% of total imports during the same period.
