The French Girl Guide To Holiday Party Makeup
Here is how French women do holiday party makeup. The holiday season is definitely one of the most wonderful times of the year, especially because it gives us reasons to wear refined outfits and sophisticated makeup looks any day of the week. But it’s also the busiest few weeks of our social calendar with countless holiday celebrations to attend, from office parties to family gatherings. And while classic holiday makeup looks like red lips and eyeliner are always a staple for dinner gatherings and after-dark soirées, there’s nothing wrong with adding some extra sparkle by playing with glitter products and more.
So, just in time for the holidays, here is a step-by-step guide to creating the most beautiful and effortless French girl makeup for a holiday soirée, plus the best makeup essentials to recreate this look.
Face · Le Teint
Foundation is a step French women generally skip, but ondays when breakouts and redness show up to the party, they’ll make an exception. Opt for a foundationwith light coverage that leaves a natural and radiant finish. Prefer a liquid formula thatgenerally has the most natural finish and you can apply thefingers. Dior’s Capture Dreamskin cushion foundation and Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer are my two ultimate favorites. They offer both nice coverages but are not too heavy.
Then, just applythe tiniest amount ofconcealersparingly to problem areas: under the eyes, but also anywhere else to cover blemishes or pigmentations. For a very natural finish, I’ll recommend Dior Forever Skin Correct concealer and the YSL Touche Éclat All-Over Brightening concealer pen.
This French holiday party makeup is all about natural glow and a little flush. Just add a little bit of blush exactly where you would naturally flush: to the apples of the cheeks, up onto the temples, and right on the bridge of the nose. Blend until you have a very subtle color and natural finish. For this holiday makeup look, I love the Dior Rouge Blush 601 Hologlam which is abuildable powder blush in avibrantpink shade.
Finally, add a little extra sparkle to your complexion with a highlighter in gold, copper, and rose gold shades like the Chanel Baume Essential or the Fluide Enlumineur —the latter can be mixed in with a foundation for a delicate dewy finish. Apply your favorite highlighter above your cheekbones; it will give that definition as if you’ve sculpted out your cheeks.
Eyes · Les Yeux
For the eyes, you’ll need a dark brown kohl eye pencil (like the Chanel Stylo Ombre et Contour eyeshadow liner khôl), a gold or beige shimmery eyeshadow, and plenty of black mascara. Just line your upper and lower lash lines with the pencil and then use either a fine eye shadow brush or the tip of your finger to smudge it out. Then, apply a gold, beige, or rose shimmery eyeshadow like the Chanel Ombre Première liquid eyeshadow in the shade 39 Lame Ivoire. If you prefer using a palette with a few colors to choose from depending on your mood I’ll recommendDior’s 5 Couleurs couture (in limited edition) or the Chanel Les 4 Ombres multi-effect quadra eyeshadows. For mascara, choose a very dark black mascara for a more dramatic look. My ultimate favorites are the Le Volume de Chanel mascara and the Diorshow mascara.
Finally, when it comes to brows, the bigger the better. French women generally like them generous and not too over defined. Basically, fluffy eyebrows are the go-to look, and Glossier’s Boy brow is the perfect brow gel for that. Read More…
