The 10 most treasured items in the UK are depressingly predictable
We’re living in a world where people value their laptops and cars more than their wedding rings, depressingly.
That’s according to a new survey of 5,000 Brits, which compared the items that we really value in 2015 to those from 1890.
Unsurprisingly, those living in the UK 125 years ago listed a sewing machine as their most valued possession.
Closely followed by a china tea pot
And then it was a mantelpiece clock
Here’s their top 10 – which might seem simple, but also pretty essential.

4. Piano
5. Mirror
6. Pocket Watch
7. Fountain Pen
8. Silver spoons
9. Bicycle
10. Wedding band
And then there’s us in 2015.
We’ve opted for the slightly less essential items of a television.
An iPhone
While a loving family portrait is relegated to a disappointing 10th place.
