Sony set to take on Samsung's Galaxy S9 with a new Xperia smartphone that'll be announced next week
The Samsung Galaxy S9 isn't the only top-tier smartphone set to be revealed at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona this month.
Sony apparently has a new gadget in the pipeline, according to a cryptic social media tweet from the Japanese company's phone division.
According to the 23-second video tweet, Sony's new phone could boast a new, curving design and will apparently be revealed on February 26 at the industry event.
If it does launch a new phone, it will mark the third handset from the Japanese company this year after it previously launched the Sony XA2 and XA2 Ultra at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Little is known about what Sony has up its sleeve, but according to Xperia Blog, there will actually be two devices launched next week. The first will be the Sony Xperia XZ2 while the second will be a small-screen version called the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact.
As ever, expect Sony to focus on its camera prowess and, specifically, the slow-motion video capture that was a highlight of the Xperia XZ last year.
Sony has a wide range of in-house technology at its disposal, including the Bravia screen and Exmoor camera tech. There's also a little product called the PlayStation that remains popular.
Despite this, Sony has struggled recently to win over Android customers from the likes of Samsung and Huawei.
