Now investors want social, as well as financial, returns

Change is indeed in the air, as the Prime Minister has emphasised in her call for Britain to lead the way with a new,inclusive form of capitalism. 

The investment industry is not immune as we saw last week when the Financial Conduct Authority published the interim findings of its asset management market review.

I fully support the regulator’s call for greater transparency, to arm investors with the information they need to understand their choices, identify the right managers and improve scrutiny and accountability among those of us entrusted with managing other people’s money.

We are also seeing a growing desire for investors to deploy their pensions and other savings in a manner that can achieve a positive social return as well as a financial one. “Impact” investing may well be a newish term, but I have no doubt it is one that is here to stay, not least because of the very different priorities...
