Apple DROPS encrypted messaging app Telegram from the App Store
Apple has removed the secure messaging app Telegram from its App Store.
The app uses end-to-end encryption to allow users to send each other messages without fear of being intercepted. It has drawn plenty of criticism from Theresa May's government as a platform for terrorists to communicate.
According to Telegram's founder Pavel Durov, the app was removed because it contained "inappropriate content".
"We were alerted by Apple that inappropriate content was made available to our users and both apps were taken off the App Store," Durov posted on Twitter.
"Once we have protections in place we expect the apps to be back on the App Store."
As well as the regular Teelgram app, Apple also removed Telegram X - a new version that featured better battery efficiency.
The app is a well-known rival to WhatsApp.
At the recent Davos forum, Theresa May name-checked Telegram as a platform for terrorism.
She said: "No one wants to be known as the terrorists’ platform or the first-choice app for paedophiles."
