Albania has taken a significant step towards modernizing its urban infrastructure by engaging Presight, a leading global big data analytics company powered by AI, to implement a nationwide smart city project. This initiative aims to digitize urban infrastructure, enhance traffic management, and modernize public services, positioning Albania as one of Europe’s foremost adopters of artificial intelligence and smart nation infrastructure.
The letter of engagement was signed in Tirana in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and His Excellency Mr. Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania. The agreement was formalized between Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Presight, and Albanian officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku and Minister of Interior Ervin Hoxha.
Project Overview
The smart city initiative will encompass 20 cities across Albania, delivering a range of community benefits, including reduced traffic congestion and faster emergency response times. The project is designed to enhance Albania’s sustainability and digital transformation agenda while introducing efficiencies across public services. Key components of the project include:
- AI-Powered Smart City and Traffic Management Platform: This platform will enable real-time monitoring of urban operations, streamline essential public services, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance road safety.
- Advanced Command and Control Center: Utilizing cutting-edge AI technology, this center will centralize decision-making for public service operations, emergency response, and infrastructure management.
Presight’s AI solutions are expected to help Albania set a global benchmark for digital-native countries, drawing on best practices in smart city design and lessons learned from AI infrastructure deployments in Abu Dhabi and the UAE.
