When you're in Turkey next time make sure you visit Kabak Köyü, a small remote beach community located on the west coast of the Turkish Mediterranean. Despite being close to Fethiye and Ölüdeniz, Kabak is an oasis of calm compared to its neighbors. This is a great place to switch off from the world and enjoy the tranquility and beauty of untapped nature and it is still somewhat of a hidden gem, unknown even to many locals.
A heavily winding road of around 25 km connects Ölüdeniz with Kabak, giving some breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and the surrounding mountains and valleys. Once you arrive to the last stop, the village of Kabak, you will have two options to go to the beach: walk down a steep path, part of the Lycian Way, or take the jeep coming down the hill on a rough dirty road. Kabak Köyü now counts 14 camping grounds offering camping, tented platforms, bungalows or tree houses to suit any budget. It has a restaurant that serves delicious food and has nice chill out areas around the swimming pool just above the sand-and-pebble beach with amazing turquoise water, which has been named as one of the most beautiful beaches in Turkey. The whole place has a hippy-esque vibe with a lot of hippy backpackers, all of the camping grounds are green oriented since bungalows are either built of wood or made of earth, there is also a centre for shamanic healing therapy, and yoga courses are held regularly. Perfect place for camping and trekking enthusiast, yoga devotee or any fan of untapped beauty, where you can get away from it all and just relax.
Locals also say that the view from near the Full Moon Camp overlooking Kabak beach on a full moon night is breathtaking, and those two souls who are truly in love and share the moment and the view under the full moon will always share their lives together till eternity! ;)
