The winter storm, named Otto, is moving eastward over Sweden, headed towards Finland.
Snowfall will cause bad driving conditions in many parts of Finland this weekend, particularly on Saturday, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).
Areas along the south and west coasts could receive up to 20 cm of snowfall.
Driving conditions will be bad or very bad in many areas throughout the weekend, according to Tuukka Keränen, FMI's on-duty meteorologist.
The winter storm, dubbed Otto, is currently moving eastward over Sweden and the Baltic Sea. It has led to dozens of train and ferry cancellations in northern Denmark and southern Norway, according to the Associated Press.
Road conditions in southwestern Finland will begin to deteriorate as snow arrives from the west on Friday evening.
"This snowfall will spread from the west across a large part of the country over the course of Saturday night," Keränen explained.
Roads will be slippery in many areas, particularly on Saturday. The FMI has issued warnings (siirryt toiseen palveluun) for poor driving conditions across areas of southern and western Finland — as well as parts of Lapland on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
"Weather conditions will cause very bad driving conditions in coastal areas, possibly already on Saturday morning. If you're planning to head out on [winter] vacation trip by car, or otherwise out on the roads, it's almost worth reconsidering whether or not to do so," Keränen advised. Read More…
