WhatsApp is Testing a GIF Autoplay Feature For a Future Update
WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature that allows GIFs to autoplay within the app. This new update, which is available only to a select few beta testers, is expected to enhance the user experience by introducing a new way of conveying messages and emotions in a fun and creative way.
Since GIFs have become a popular way of expressing emotions and conveying messages, this new feature is expected to be a game-changer in the way users interact on the platform. The beta version of the latest WhatsApp update for most Android and iOS devices now includes this new feature, which is currently being tested by a small group of users.
According to WABetaInfo, the GIF will play automatically only once. After the initial playback, users will have to tap the media file to replay the GIF. This automatic playback is limited to the first time the GIF is displayed in the conversation to avoid constant distractions.
While WhatsApp already supports GIF sharing, users currently have to tap the GIF for it to play. Once this new feature is implemented, however, users can enjoy the convenience of having GIFs autoplay within the app.
Although autoplaying GIFs are not a new concept and have been available on several social media platforms such as Telegram and Twitter, it's yet to be officially rolled out on WhatsApp. While it's unclear when the feature will be officially released, it's expected to be rolled out in the coming months.
In addition to this new feature, WhatsApp is also working on other exciting developments for future updates of the app. These include a self-destruct audio message feature, self-destruct group chats, a newsletter feature, and the ability for iOS users to edit sent messages.
