The Writers' Union of the Philippines just had their 49th national congress last Saturday at the Ateneo de Manila University. Lifetime achievement awards were handed out to writers in English, Filipino and regional languages.
Screenplay and documentary writers were also feted, in a bid to become more inclusive and accepting of non-traditional literary genres.
The National Book Awards will also have their 40th awards ceremony on May 13. This is the premier book awards in the country, administered by the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and the Manila Critics Circle.
Launched in 1982 by the Manila Critics Circle, the award honors prestigious titles written, designed and published in the Philippines. This cycle of the National Book Awards showcases books published in 2021 and garnered 213 title nominations grouped into literary, non-literary and design. They were also written in English, Filipino and Ilocano. Out of the 100 titles, 29 were chosen to receive the National Book Awards. The awarding ceremony will also be held onsite — the first since the Covid-19 pandemic. READ MORE…
