Welcome Message from the New Chair
As the newly elected Chair of our delegation, I am honored to preside over our regular meetings and to work closely with the Co-Chair of the Chilean component in leading the EU-Chile Joint Parliamentary Committee. This committee will convene twice a year, alternating between Chile and the European Union, providing us with a valuable platform for collaboration and dialogue.
Chile stands as a constructive and like-minded partner for the European Union, with whom we share a strong foundation of values, including the defense of democracy and human rights, open trade, and a commitment to multilateralism. In an era marked by increasing international instability, it is imperative that we update and enhance our current framework for relations. Together, we must reaffirm our shared support for the multilateral order and our determination to defend it.
At the conclusion of the last parliamentary term (2019-2024), the European Parliament granted its consent to the modernization of the EU-Chile Association Agreement established in 2002. This modernization will soon come into effect through a new Advanced Framework Agreement, which not only updates the trade pillar but also strengthens our cooperation in political areas, with a particular emphasis on economic development, raw materials, and our common identity.
As Chair of the Delegation for Relations with Chile (D-CL), my primary objective is to enhance the role and influence of our parliamentary assemblies as representatives of our citizens on the international stage. I aim to foster broad-ranging and intensive dialogue between our assemblies and to leverage parliamentary democracy to advance our mutual interests in collaboration with Chile.
I look forward to working together to strengthen our partnership and to make meaningful progress in the areas that matter most to both the EU and Chile.
