Verizon 5G Powers Vay’s Teleoperated Electric Vehicle Fleet in the U.S.
Verizon Business has partnered with Vay Technology to bring Verizon 5G connectivity to Vay's fleet of teleoperated electric vehicles. The agreement includes custom data plans to manage the large amounts of data generated by the vehicles' sensors and cameras.
Vay's teleoperated electric vehicle fleet is currently operating in Las Vegas, where users can order a car through the Vay app and have it delivered to them by a Vay teledriver. The user can then drive the car themselves, and when the trip is complete, they can end the rental in the app and exit the vehicle. A Vay teledriver will then remotely drive the car to the next customer.
Verizon's 5G connectivity is used for various data-intensive and mission-critical workloads, including:
- Teleoperation: Verizon 5G enables the remote control of Vay's electric vehicles, allowing teledrivers to safely and efficiently operate the cars.
- Telematics and diagnostics: Verizon 5G connectivity allows Vay to transmit telematics and diagnostic information from the vehicles to Vay and/or Vay customers, enabling real-time monitoring and maintenance of the fleet.
- Over-the-air updates: Verizon 5G enables Vay to transmit over-the-air updates to software and firmware in the vehicles, ensuring that the fleet is always up-to-date and running efficiently.
The partnership between Verizon and Vay demonstrates the potential of 5G technology to enable innovative mobility solutions and transform the way we think about transportation. With Verizon's 5G connectivity, Vay is able to provide a unique and efficient transportation experience for its customers, while also reducing the environmental impact of its operations.
