Unexpected guests appeared on the saline in Kiskunsà¡g
The rosy flamingo is an extremely rare wanderer in Hungary, most recently in 2018 a young specimen appeared at the Fehér Lake in Szeged, and the year before two at the Csaj Lake in Szömörkény. The species nests in many parts of southern Europe, although it has special habitat needs. It is a constant species of poetry in Africa, but is also present from the Middle East to India.
This characteristic beaked, neck-legged wader usually binds to coastal saltwater habitats and is particularly rare in the interior of the continent. The shallow saline lakes of the Great Plain are somewhat reminiscent of the salt lakes and coastal lagoons where flamingos occur regularly. Their food is small crabs, saltworms, mosquito larvae and algae that are filtered out of the soft mud using their special beak.
The specimens observed in the Bába chair stood on the wing during the afternoon and flew in the direction of the Böddi chair. On January 7, we no longer detected them.
