Transport in France faces another day of strikes over pension reform

Transport services in France are set to be hit by another general strike across the country on Thursday (13 April) - the 12th day of action in the past few months.
Unions across multiple sectors, including transport workers, are calling another nationwide strike as part of their protests against the French government’s plans to increase the pension age from 62 to 64.
DGAC, the French civil aviation authority, has again requested that airlines reduce their flight schedules to and from some airports on 13 April, with services at Toulouse, Bordeaux and Nantes likely to be worst affected.
Air France said it would be operating a similar level of service to 6 April’s strike, including all long-haul flights and all services to and from its main hub at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport. The carrier said it would also run around 80 per cent of flights to and from certain French airports.
French train operator SNCF warned that services on some of its lines would be “partially disrupted” and Trenitalia has cancelled several services between Italy and France on Wednesday and Thursday. Although Eurostar said that it would run its normal schedule on Thursday.
Currently no further national strikes have been called by French unions beyond 13 April’s industrial action, with a key court ruling on the legality of the government’s plans on pension reform expected on Friday (14 April). Read More…
