Peruvian students will send an astrobiology project to space
A group of Peruvian students will send the first Peruvian astrobiology project into space with the intention of making new contributions to science and health and, more specifically, to investigate the treatment and cure of various immune-resistant diseases and infections that usually affect experts who They operate outside of our planet.
The IRMA project ( Instrument for Recording Microbial Activity or Instrument for Recording Microbial Activity in Spanish) is an initiative of The Mars Society Peru with the participation of 22 students belonging to the University of Engineering and Technology (UTEC), the University National Engineering ( UNI ) and Ricardo Palma University . This team has been working to refine the final details of the launch that will go aboard the Mengtian module to Tiangong , the Chinese Space Station .
What is the IRMA Project about?
E. coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria will be stored in the space capsule that will be sent to zero gravity as part of the project. These agents are the cause of multiple and serious infections in humans, so it will record valuable information for the creation of new, more effective drugs.
The students that make up the IRMA Project were selected by The Mars Society Peru through a meticulous selection process of students from careers such as bioengineering, mechatronics engineering and other associates as well as those interested in astrobiology.
Of this group, there are eight students who stand out as they belong to the UTEC Bioengineering and Mechatronics Engineering careers . This group is in charge of determining and studying the concentration of bacterial strains that will be sent into space. Read More…
