Morocco Digitizes Over 328,000 E-books in Public Libraries
Morocco's Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication is taking steps to encourage reading in honor of the International Day of the Book on April 23 and the upcoming National Day of Reading on May 10. The Ministry has made thousands of e-books available to users throughout the country, promoting reading and reinforcing technological and electronic services within public libraries.
In a statement, the Ministry announced that this initiative aims to enrich the catalogs of public libraries, extend access to e-books, and provide users with approximately 9979 accounts for free book downloads. This will allow users to easily obtain information and enjoy reading with ease. The initiative will enable library users to download 328,480 e-books on a variety of topics.
This cultural program is diverse and includes 328,480 e-books, with 141,500 in French (43%), 58,400 in English (17.5%), 20,600 in Arabic (6%), and 8000 (2.5%) in other languages. This will offer readers the opportunity to discover a wide range of Moroccan and international literary works, including over 100,000 titles and 60,000 books for children and young adults, promoting cultural diversity and imagination.
The Ministry highlighted that this new platform is a unique experience launched by Moroccan and Arab publishing houses to keep up with technological advancements. Additionally, the initiative will help spread Moroccan authors' works on a larger geographical scale while promoting Moroccan culture.
To access the electronic library's services, users must contact public libraries in different regions of Morocco to create an account to access the platform.
