Moldova Will Not Participate in Eurovision 2025
Moldova has announced that it will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, which is set to take place in Basel, Switzerland. This decision was revealed during a press conference held by representatives of the TeleRadio-Moldova (TRM) television and radio company on January 22.
Corneliu Durnescu, the director of Moldova 1 TV channel, explained that the decision was not made lightly but was deemed necessary given the current circumstances. He noted that the recent national election highlighted several issues, including a decline in public interest and concerns regarding the overall quality of artistic performances. These factors contributed to a negative perception among both professionals in the industry and the general public.
Durnescu emphasized the need for a radical reform of the selection process for Eurovision participants, indicating that the current system requires significant changes to restore confidence and enthusiasm for the competition. The decision reflects a broader commitment to improving the quality of representation in international events and addressing the challenges faced by the Moldovan music scene.
As a result, Moldova will be absent from the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, marking a significant shift in the country's participation in this popular cultural event.
