Ministry of Education confirms almost 6,000 teachers are set to receive salary adjustment this month
Nearly 6,000 teachers are set to receive salary adjustments this month as part of the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation's (MECI) initiative to fully recover service time for primary and secondary school educators. This adjustment comes after a long-standing demand for the recovery of frozen service time, particularly from the period during the Troika's economic intervention.
As of today, MECI has confirmed that 5,924 teachers have completed the necessary processes for their salary adjustments, while 2,088 processes have been validated by teachers and are now awaiting final confirmation by school principals. Additionally, 6,627 processes have been initiated by schools and are pending validation by teachers. The ministry anticipates that these numbers will increase significantly throughout September as the school year begins.
Overall, 76,809 teachers accessed the platform designed for the recognition of frozen service time by the deadline at 11:59 PM on Sunday. For those whose processes are completed after today, the new salary scales will be applied in the following month, with retroactive payments dating back to September 1st.
Schools have already been authorized to process salaries based on these career repositionings. The recovery of six years, six months, and 23 days of work, which had been frozen during the Troika period, was a key issue in the recent struggles of teachers, leading to widespread protests and strikes. The current ministry reached an agreement with teacher unions in May, allowing for a phased recovery of service time over four years.
