Members of Parliament of Mount Kenya endorse Kithure Kindiki as liaison to President Ruto
A group of Members of Parliament from the Mount Kenya region has officially endorsed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as their primary liaison to President William Ruto. During a press conference on Thursday, September 12, the MPs emphasized their trust in Kindiki’s capacity to advocate for the region's interests within the national government.
The leaders expressed the need for a direct connection between the Mount Kenya region and the national executive, particularly on development issues. "Given the current situation and the urgency of the tasks ahead, there is a need for a direct link between us and the national executive on development matters," they stated.
The delegation, which included over 40 MPs allied with the Kenya Kwanza coalition, was led by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa, MP Kimani Kuria, and Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi. They highlighted concerns about potential delays in development projects if there was no clear communication channel with the central government.
This endorsement marks a shift away from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, also from the Mount Kenya region, with the MPs now favoring Kindiki as their point of contact in the national government. This move follows a similar show of support from Mt Kenya East leaders, who had recently named Kindiki as their regional leader.
