Kubica's Hunger For Monza. "We Could Have Fought For Victory"
The sixth place of the Prema ORLEN Team in the fourth round of the World Endurance Championship is unsatisfied when the game was about to win - we could have fought for the victory, but the safety car and the penalty did not help - reported Robert Kubica. As a consolation, there is a very strong fourth place in the LMP2 of the Polish team of Inter Europol Competition in the hot race in Monza.
The dissatisfaction was already after qualifying, in which Kubica took sixth place, although the potential was second. The Pole, however, did not complete the last measurement lap on new tires, because the session was interrupted one and a half minutes before the end after the failure of the latest Peugeot prototype. - I'd go half a second, maybe 0.7 faster. This is life. In long-distance races, the starting point is important, but not the most important - emphasized our driver. And in fact, the race was much better.
At the start, Louis Deletraz got behind the wheel, quickly making his way to the lead. When he handed over the car to Lorenzo Colombo, he was in the lead. The Italian was in the second position for a long time, but the plans of our team - as in the first race at Sebring - were thwarted by neutralization. When Kubica got behind the wheel, Prema ORLEN Team took sixth place. Our driver was making up for losses when, during the fight for third place, in the first corner he nudged the machine number 1. The impact was light, but the rival's car turned and the Pole got a penalty of driving through the boxes, losing another 25 seconds.
- The race was going quite well - our driver reported. - At the beginning, we developed a big advantage. Everything was under control. We fought for the first-second place. A couple of strong cars were out of the fight and, like at Sebring, about halfway through the race ... Not the red flag this time, but the safety car got the stake together. Not only did we suddenly lose a significant advantage, but also some crews had new tires fitted. We did not go to the pit and from then on we had to go uphill - said Kubica. Read More…
