Italy's Biggest Bank Intesa Sanpaolo Resolves Technical Issues
Intesa Sanpaolo (ISP.MI), Italy's largest bank, has announced that it has resolved all technical issues that affected client access to its home banking app on Monday. A spokesperson confirmed that all access channels are now functioning normally, following reports from users who experienced difficulties earlier in the day.
The spokesperson stated, "All access channels are back to normal," and reassured clients that pension payments scheduled for Monday would be credited as expected with a December 2 date. The bank had previously indicated that the service disruptions were due to intense traffic at the beginning of the month, a time when numerous payments are typically processed.
According to tracking website Downdetector.com, which aggregates status reports from various sources, there was a peak of over 7,000 reports of issues after 0600 GMT, which decreased to around 2,000 by 0900 GMT. This spike in reports highlights the extent of the service disruption experienced by users.
Intesa Sanpaolo is currently undergoing a significant technology upgrade, transitioning to a cloud IT infrastructure—a key initiative under CEO Carlo Messina. The bank has launched a cloud-based digital bank called Isybank and plans to migrate its entire banking operations to the cloud by the end of next year. This ambitious move is notable, as few high-street lenders globally have attempted such a comprehensive transition due to the technical challenges involved.
As Intesa Sanpaolo continues to enhance its technological capabilities, the resolution of these recent issues is a positive step towards improving customer experience and service reliability.
