How to book cheaper holidays, and other tips
At a time of high inflation all around the world, booking your holidays can feel like more of a strain on your budget than ever. But some simple and often overlooked changes in your booking strategy can cushion the blow.
1. Start with your transport habits. If you expand your travel search to more distant departure airports, new and possibly cheaper flights will show.
In places where there are railway connections to the airport, the train journey to the airport is included in many package tours – “Rail & Fly” – so you only have to put up with the longer journey. That should be less of a burden if it means you can save money.
2. Try varying your travel dates. Do they really have to be from Saturday to Saturday, or exactly 14 days? Be more flexible with arrival and departure days as well as the duration of the trip, and you can snag some neat bargains.
Also, check flights during the week and uneven travel periods like 13 or 15 days.
3. Look for children’s discounts. Many tour operators offer much reduced prices for children in certain hotels and destinations, so it’s well worth taking a closer look.
4. Dig deeper in the details of what is included in the package tour. Supposedly cheaper offers may turn out to be not such great bargains after all, for example, because hotel transfer is not included and you have to organise the 100km from the airport to the hotel yourself. Read More…
