France Opens Center in Ivory Coast to Train 10,000 Teachers in Africa

Ivory Coast has inaugurated a French center in Abidjan dedicated to training over 10,000 teachers over the next five years. This initiative targets educators from 15 French-speaking countries in sub-Saharan Africa, aiming to equip them with essential knowledge and skills to improve classroom learning outcomes.
The establishment of the Professional Development Center (CDP) comes at a crucial time, as more than half of all students in Ivory Coast enter secondary school without basic reading and writing skills. Ivorian Education Minister Kandia Camara emphasized the importance of this center, describing it as "the culmination of a rigorous and demanding process" that addresses urgent needs in educational engineering, pre-service training, and ongoing capacity building.
During the inauguration, Camara referred to the CDP as "a real godsend," highlighting the close ties between the educational systems of Ivory Coast and France. Jean-Christophe Deberre, former director of the Mission laïque française, noted that the project represents a significant step in fostering cooperation between France and French-speaking African nations.
The CDP aims to provide a sustainable training model, moving away from traditional methods that often involve brief theoretical sessions followed by immediate classroom assignments. François Clauzel, the center's director, stated, "Our goal is to offer training that will last over time," ensuring that educators receive continuous professional development rather than one-off training experiences.
To kick off the initiative, several hundred participants will engage in workshops and conferences designed to empower educators with practical knowledge and strategies they can implement in their classrooms. Minister Camara expressed her hope that the center will contribute to "writing beautiful pages in the history of our school together," underscoring the collaborative spirit of this educational endeavor.
As the CDP begins its mission, it holds the promise of transforming the educational landscape in Ivory Coast and beyond, ultimately benefiting countless students across the region.
