Ecuador universities close due to national strike
The suspension of classes was reported by at least five higher education centers in several provinces, through their accounts on social networks and spaces for exchange with students.
For the time being, the measure will be adopted by the Central University of Ecuador, located in Quito and the National Polytechnic School University, in Cuenca, both of the public education system.
The Universidad Catolica and UTE, the Politecnica Salesiana and the Superior Politecnica del Litoral, among others, will also keep their classrooms closed.
The possible paralyzation of roads and consequent problems for public transportation are some of the reasons that led these facilities to apply the provision.
For its part, the Education Ministry indicated that on-site teaching at the national level has not been suspended.
“The educational community is informed that on Monday, on-site classes continue, guaranteeing the right to education for children, teenagers, young people and adults in schools of all types,” the agency said in a statement. Read More...
