Cyprus-Based Skich Launches Alternative Gaming Store for iPhone Users

Cyprus-based mobile gaming platform Skich has officially launched the Skich Store, an innovative alternative app marketplace aimed at enhancing game discovery and distribution for mobile gamers. This new platform is designed to cater specifically to players' preferences, positioning itself as a significant disruptor in the mobile gaming landscape.

The launch of Skich Store comes in the wake of recent regulatory changes in the European Union that allow alternative app stores to operate alongside traditional marketplaces. Accessible exclusively through its official website, the Skich Store has quickly gained traction, attracting approximately 100,000 organic visitors per month and experiencing an impressive growth rate of 20%.

Skich aims to address the long-standing challenges faced by mobile gamers in finding games that match their interests, as well as the difficulties developers encounter in gaining visibility in a saturated market. The Skich Store features a comprehensive recommendation system that categorizes games into 240 genres, significantly more than the App Store's offerings. This extensive categorization ensures that players can discover titles tailored to their specific tastes.

One of the standout features of the Skich Store is its unique swipe-based discovery system, reminiscent of popular dating apps. Users can swipe right to save games they like and left to dismiss those that do not align with their preferences. This intuitive approach simplifies the game discovery process, making it more engaging for users.

Additionally, Skich integrates social features that allow users to create gamelists and receive recommendations from friends and like-minded players. This interactive element fosters a sense of community and enhances the overall discovery experience.

Early user data indicates that 70% of players who utilize the Skich Store download at least one game, with users installing two to five times more games per month compared to their previous habits. This suggests that the platform is effectively meeting the needs of both gamers and developers.

Skich Store not only focuses on enhancing the user experience but also aims to provide developers with increased visibility beyond traditional ranking algorithms. The platform reports that half of all users who visit a developer’s profile download at least one additional game from the same studio. This feature, along with dedicated profile pages and improved branding opportunities, allows developers to build stronger connections with their audience.

Sergey Budkovski, CEO of Skich, emphasized the need for a new approach to game discovery, stating, “Game discovery has remained a major challenge for players and developers alike. With AI making game production easier and competition fiercer, it’s time for a new approach.” He further noted that the Skich Store is designed specifically for gamers, making it easier than ever to find and enjoy new titles.

Since its inception, Skich has secured $1.5 million in investment from GEM Capital to accelerate product development and expand its platform. This funding reinforces the company’s commitment to reshaping mobile game distribution.

Currently, the Skich Store is available in Europe on iOS via its official website, with an Android version in development. The company is focused on enhancing its platform to help developers better engage with players through dedicated profile pages and discovery features.
