Covid-19 case numbers: 26 further deaths, 11,063 new cases
In the week leading up to midnight on Sunday, Aotearoa reported a total of 11,063 new cases of Covid-19, along with 26 additional deaths caused by the virus. These latest deaths bring the total number of Covid-19 deaths in the country to 2762.
Currently, there are 265 people in hospital with the virus, including eight individuals in intensive care. The regions of Canterbury, Waitematā, Counties Manukau, and Southern have recorded the highest number of cases in the country.
In the previous week, there were 12,383 new cases of Covid-19 reported in Aotearoa, along with 20 additional deaths attributed to the virus. At that time, there were 292 individuals in hospital with the virus, with nine of those in intensive care.
Unfortunately, the Ministry of Health recently announced that a long-awaited survey of Covid-19 infections would no longer be conducted. The survey was initially announced by former director-general of public health Ashley Bloomfield, who stated that the survey would test 100 individuals per week over a six-month period. Additionally, a seroprevalence survey, which was a blood test to determine if individuals had previously contracted Covid-19, was also planned.
