Canon Pulls R3 Firmware Update for Undisclosed Reason
Canon has pulled the latest R3 firmware update that was announced last week. The company has not disclosed why the update has been removed.
When reached for comment, Canon said the following but stopped short of providing an explanation.
“The latest firmware version 1.2.0 for the EOS R3 is temporarily unavailable. We anticipate the firmware being available in the near future; therefore please check back soon for your download.”
The undisclosed issues with firmware version 1.2 will eventually be resolved.
That said, the removal of the update does indicate that it did not work as planned. Photographers who may have downloaded the update but had not yet installed it should probably hold off until Canon either explains what caused an issue or until the company is able to publish a new, fixed update.
Canon’s R3 firmware update version 1.2 added a new custom high-speed continuous shooting setting that allows for the capture of between 30 and 195 frames per second at full resolution in JPEG, HEIF, or RAW.
