Bududa Experiences Fresh Landslide
Bududa District in Uganda has been hit by a fresh landslide affecting five sub-counties—Bufuma, Nametsi, Bumayoka, Lutsekhe, and Bundesi—following heavy rains in the Bugisu region.
According to Militon Kamoti, the Bududa District LCV chairperson, the landslide buried six homes and destroyed crops such as maize, bananas, and coffee. Fortunately, no lives have been lost.
Kamoti also reported that a large rock from the national park has blocked the Nametsi-Mabono road, cutting off access to Bufuma Health Center III, leaving the community without access to healthcare services while the rains continue.
Patrick Nabutanyo, the district's acting communication officer, confirmed that a report has been sent to the Ministry of Disaster and urged residents in high-risk areas to relocate to nearby churches and schools for safety.
While the Ugandan government had previously compensated residents living in disaster-prone areas and resettled them to Bunambutye in Bulambuli District, some have returned to the dangerous zones.
