Baku to Host International Carpet Festival
The International Carpet Festival is set to take place in Icherisheher (Old City) from May 2 to 4. Organized by the Administration of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher” and "Azerkhalcha" OJSC, with support from the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO), the festival aims to promote the art of Azerbaijani carpet weaving on a global scale, showcasing its rich heritage and future development prospects.
The festival will kick off on May 2 with the International Carpet Forum, which will gather leading experts, designers, manufacturers, and researchers from the carpet industry. The forum will feature plenary sessions, panel discussions, B2B meetings, and special sessions for young researchers.
From May 3 to 4, the festivities will continue in the historic streets of Icherisheher, where ancient caravanserais and squares will host carpet exhibitions, master classes, interactive theater performances, and musical events. Participants from various countries will showcase their carpet weaving traditions, and national pavilions will be set up to highlight the unique styles of each participating nation.
This year’s festival is particularly significant as it coincides with the 25th anniversary of Icherisheher's inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List and the 15th anniversary of the traditional art of Azerbaijani carpet weaving being recognized as part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Throughout the festival, attendees can look forward to exclusive exhibitions, master classes, interactive events, concert programs, and special educational activities for children.
For those interested in participating in the three-day event, more information can be found on the festival's official website, bakucarpetfest.az. Any inquiries can be directed to [email protected].
The festival organizers warmly invite everyone to Icherisheher to celebrate and preserve the rich tradition of carpet art together while introducing it to the world.
