Athletes selected for SEA Games should secure medals: Minister
Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali called on athletes selected for the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam to make serious preparations in order to contribute medals for Indonesia's contingent in the multibranch championship.
Through a statement on his ministry's website on Tuesday, Amali reiterated that athletes dispatched to represent Indonesia are people having cleared the selection.
Hence, they must capitalize on the opportunity by bagging medals.
"Those, who are chosen, must utilize this opportunity well and deliver the best results. There are many who wish to depart but do not pass based on the review team's evaluation," he remarked.
After the SEA Games in Vietnam, the selection to deploy athletes to international multibranch sports will be more stringent by utilizing data and measured parameters, the minister explained.
This means that only sports branches and athletes that won a medal will be dispatched.
This step is taken as an effort by the government to change the paradigm concerning sports guidance for Indonesia's achievement that places Olympics as the main target.
Meanwhile, the SEA Games and ASIAN Games are only secondary targets.
Indonesia will participate in 32 out of the 40 sports branches in the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam.
Some 13 sports branches are included within the National Sports Grand Design, such as weightlifting, athletics, badminton, swimming, and archery, in which the athletes are expected to bag gold, silver, and bronze medals.
Meanwhile, athletes competing in branches outside the DBON, such as basketball, boxing, volleyball, football, and esports, are expected to win gold and silver medals. Read More...
