Aptar and Quadpack team up to create refillable lipstick with wooden packaging
The two packaging suppliers for the beauty sector decided to come together and mobilize their specific know-how in order to develop a lipstick case with a refill system. Entirely made of wood, the product is equipped with a mechanism that does not contain polyoxymethylene (POM), glue or lubricant.
Company based in Barcelona and specialized in the manufacture of packaging for the beauty sector, Quadpack mobilized its expertise in the development of wooden elements, allied with Aptar , a specialist in the manufacture of mechanisms for lipsticks. Together, the two companies developed a refillable lipstick with the aim of taking one more step towards the sustainability of make-up products, without renouncing the product's high level of sensoriality.
Minimize the environmental impact
Called Iconic Woodacity, the new lipstick was developed with the aim of generating minimal environmental impact and maximizing consumer interest. The product combines the Iconic mechanism, created by Aptar , with a technology developed and patented by Quadpack : Woodacity, whose particularity is to use only wood as raw material.
Free from POM, glue or lubricant , Aptar 's mechanism gives smoothness, consistency and precision to the tube rotation, ensuring that the bullet's activation is smooth throughout the product's useful life. According to the company, the mechanism is reliable and compatible with most filling lines, with no need for adjustments. Its quality is recognized by the main makeup brands in the world.
The mechanism, fixed in an aluminum tube, is positioned in a single-material wooden case, developed and custom-made by Quadpack . Made entirely of ash wood with sustainable forest management certification, the case opens and closes with an intuitive gesture. The patented "Solo Twist" system is oval-shaped on the inside, ensuring that the lid can be locked automatically with just a quarter of a turn. " The rotation system differs from the snap fasteners commonly found on lipsticks, creating an unprecedented and fun gesture ," explains Quadpack in a statement.
The lipstick can be refilled with extreme ease : all the consumer needs to do is remove the used mechanism and fit the refill. In fact, it is possible to use several refills of different colors with the same case, further reducing the impact of the packaging.
One of the highlights of the product is the wood finish, which gives the set a natural touch and an exclusive sensory dimension.
