Apple to release cheaper iPhone X in 2018 costing HALF the price of the original, claims analyst
Apple's upcoming iPhone X refresh could include a much cheaper handset with a price around HALF as much as the current £999 smartphone.
That's according to Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at KGI Securities who specialises in predicting Apple's movements.
He reckons the top tech firm will reveal a 6.1-inch version of the iPhone X that could cost as low as $550 - roughly translated to £390.
The reason for the dramatic drop in price is that Apple will downgrade the screen quality from expensive OLED to cheaper LCD.
It will still have the all-screen look of the iPhone X, including the notch, but won't be as visually dazzling as the current option.
According to Kuo, the new iPhone will also come with a dual-SIM version, meaning a user can run two separate numbers on the same handset.
Kuo said the addition of a cheaper version could “help increase market share in China and commercial markets,” according to 9to5Mac.
Alongside this cheaper iPhone X, Apple is also expected to release two other new phones: a 5.8-inch standard refresh of the current £999 iPhone X and a larger 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus with an OLED screen.
We'll have to wait until the autumn to find out for sure as this is traditionally when Apple unveils its latest devices.
