Actor ‘Ndimbati' denied bail on appeal

Nyarugenge Intermediate Court upheld the lower court’s decision on Thursday, April 28, to remand local actor Jean-Bosco Uwihoreye, commonly known as ‘Ndimbati’ who is suspected of defilement and intoxicating a minor.
The decision comes after the defendant filed an appeal challenging an earlier decision by the Nyarugenge Primary Court to remand him for 30 days as investigations continue.
During the appeal hearing which took place on April 25, the defendant denied the crimes and requested to be granted bail and be tried out of jail, arguing that the documents presented to court showing the victim's age were forged among other reasons.
However, the prosecution had requested for their remand, saying that there were reasonable grounds to suspect him of the crimes, and that the crimes he is charged with are punishable by over two years in prison.
Ndimbati was arrested a few days after a young woman testified, in an interview with a local YouTube channel, that the actor sexually exploited her back in 2019 and impregnated her at the age of 17.
She later gave birth to twins whom she now claims she is struggling to feed because the suspect failed to keep his promise that he would financially help her to raise them. Read More…
